If you're experiencing a dental abscess, you know just how painful and uncomfortable it can be. While it's important to seek treatment from a dentist, there are also natural remedies you can use at home to ease your symptoms. One such remedy is a tea made from a variety of herbs known for their anti-inflammatory, anti-microbial, and soothing properties.

To make this tea, you'll need a combination of chamomile flowers, thyme, sage leaves, marshmallow root, poppy capsules, and comfrey root. All of these ingredients work together to reduce inflammation, kill bacteria, soothe pain, and promote healing.

To prepare the tea, simply mix two teaspoons of each herb in a cup of hot water and let it steep for 10-15 minutes. You can then strain the tea and use it as a gargle or mouthwash several times a day.

Flores Chamomillae (Chamomile flowers).
Infusion of 3 tablespoons of flowers to a cup of water; it is kept in the mouth, slightly warmed.

Flores Millefolii (mousetail flowers), only flowers that contain proazulene, i.e. active substances similar to those of chamomile flowers.
Infusion of a spoonful of flowers to a cup of water; it is kept in the mouth, slightly warmed.

Favorable effects are also obtained with:

Folium Salviae (Sage leaves) where the antiseptic effect is combined with the astringent, cicatrizing one. Gargle with an infusion of 2 teaspoons of leaves per 100 ml of water.

Herb Meliloti (Sulfine).
Gargle with an infusion of 2 teaspoons of the plant per 100 ml of water.
Radix Gei (Cerentel root) which, due to its rich tannin content, has a marked astringent action.
Decoction of 2 teaspoons of roots to a cup of water, for local washes; in the affected area you can put pads with cotton wool or gauze soaked in this decoction.

Flores et Folium Malvae, Flores et Folium Althaeae (flowers and leaves of cultivated mallow and large mallow) - contain mucilages that give them a recognized emollient action.
Gargle with infusion of 2 teaspoons to a cup of water.

Radix Symphyti (tetanus root) contains allantoin which produces a cicatrizing action. Gargle with a decoction of 4-5 tablespoons of chopped roots to a cup of water.

The herb Hyperici (St. John's wort) - has a soothing effect on toothaches.
Gargle with an infusion of 2 tablespoons of the plant per 200 ml of water.

Gargle tea:

Flores Chamomillae (chamomile flowers), Herba Serpylli (chamomile), Folium Salviae (sage leaves) with anti-inflammatory and disinfectant action; Folium Althaeae (mallow leaves) with emollient action: Capita Papaveris (poppy capsules) slightly anesthetic: Radix Gei (Cerentel root) with astringent and hemostatic action.

Recommendations for preparing simple pharmaceutical forms using medicinal plants:

Maceration is the simplest aqueous extract obtained from plants at room temperature. This process is recommended for species containing cold-extractable principles, such as Marshmallow, Flaxseed, Mistletoe, etc. The plant material is kept in contact with the prescribed amount of potable water for 1-12 hours, agitating occasionally. It is then filtered through a cloth and administered on the same day.

Infusion is usually prepared from flowers or plant parts with fragile tissues. The fragmented plant material is moistened with three parts water, left to rest for 5 minutes, then brought to a boil in an enamel pot with water, covered with a lid. The pot is kept on a low heat bath for 5 minutes, then left to rest for 15-30 minutes. It is filtered through a cloth that is gently squeezed.

Decoction is another aqueous extract obtained from fragmented plant material, moistened as in the case of infusion, but kept at boiling point with the prescribed amount of water for 30 minutes on a low heat or water bath. The resulting aqueous extract is filtered while still hot, and then hot water is added to the plant material to make up for any evaporation losses. This process is particularly used for plant materials with hard consistency, such as roots, barks, some fruits, and seeds.

All of these types of aqueous extracts are prepared for a maximum of one day and administered sweetened with honey or sugar, unsweetened or sweetened with saccharin or cyclamate in the case of diabetics or those suffering from diarrhea.

Tincture is a hydroalcoholic extract obtained at room temperature. In home medicine, this pharmaceutical form is usually obtained by macerating the plant material in 40-70% diluted ethyl alcohol for about 7 days, followed by filtration. It is administered as drops in a little water.

Syrup, which is part of the category of aqueous extractive solutions, is obtained from macerates, infusions, decoctions, or plant juices to which at least 60% sugar is added to ensure good preservation over time. Tinctures or other medicinal substances that increase their efficiency can be added to syrups.

Medicinal wine is a pharmaceutical form obtained from fragmented plant material macerated in wine. It is intended for internal use, especially for stimulating appetite and is administered 30 minutes before meals. It is not recommended for those with hyperacid gastritis, hypertension, or liver disease. It is not administered to children.

Inhalation is obtained from medicinal plants rich in volatile oils or even from volatile oils placed in porcelain or small enamelware vessels, over which a certain amount of boiling water is added. Water vapor saturated with volatile oils acts when inhaled in the respiratory tract.

Gargles are prepared as an infusion or decoction of plants and used as a gargle in stomatitis, aphthae, tonsillitis, dental abscesses, etc.

Cataplasms, poultices, or compresses are intended for external use and are obtained from various aqueous or hydroalcoholic extractive solutions, which are then absorbed into a clean cotton or cloth. The poultice is applied directly to the skin to obtain a revulsive, emollient, or anti-inflammatory effect. Some cosmetic masks are also applied in this way.

Herbal baths, also known as balneotherapy, involve soaking your body in a tub filled with water infused with fragrant and healing plant extracts. To prepare an herbal bath, you'll need to gather your desired herbs and put them in a double-layered cheesecloth bag. Then, boil the bag in 3-5 liters of water for 10-30 minutes over low heat, and add the resulting decoction to your bathwater at a suitable temperature. Some herbs that are commonly used in herbal baths include lavender, chamomile, calendula, rose petals, and eucalyptus. Herbal baths can help to relax your muscles, relieve stress, improve circulation, and alleviate skin conditions such as eczema or psoriasis.

Local baths are similar to herbal baths, but they use smaller amounts of water and are focused on specific body parts. For example, you can prepare a local bath for a foot soak or a sitz bath to treat hemorrhoids or other infections. The preparation process is the same as for herbal baths, but you'll need less water and smaller bags of herbs. Local baths can help to reduce inflammation, soothe sore muscles, and promote wound healing.

Aromatic vinegars are made by macerating herbs in wine vinegar for a week or more, then filtering and pressing the resulting mixture. It is prepared by macerating the plants in wine vinegar, in the amount of 50-100 g of chopped plants per 1 liter of vinegar. The maceration time is 7-8 days, after which it is filtered through cheesecloth, and at the end, the content of the cheesecloth is pressed . Aromatic vinegars are used as rubs.

Medicinal oils are made by macerating the plants in edible oil for 4-6 weeks. This is how St. John's wort, Chamomile or other plant oils are prepared. They are used for hard-to-heal wounds and burns.

In conclusion, using medicinal plants in external applications such as herbal baths, local baths, aromatic vinegars, and medicinal oils can be a safe and effective way to promote skin health and relaxation. However, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional or a qualified herbalist before using any new herbal remedies, especially if you have any pre-existing medical conditions or are taking medications.

When it comes to the therapeutic effectiveness of medicinal plants, the dialectic relationship between active substances and pharmacodynamic action is of utmost importance. Therefore, the quality of the plant material used is critical.

The first element in obtaining high-quality plant material is identifying the plant organ with the highest concentration of active substances. This can be deduced from the formulation provided for each medicinal plant or tea in this work.

The second important element, also related to the content of active substances, is the optimal time for harvesting. The timing of the harvest is influenced by the stage of plant growth (before flowering, in bud, in bloom, etc.) and the season.

The third element, of a technical nature, is the correct method of harvesting. When harvesting perennial medicinal plants, it is crucial to follow certain unwritten rules to protect the plants and ensure the perpetuation of the species. Harvesting underground organs or whole plants should leave enough individuals in the area to provide material for future growth. When harvesting flowers or floral parts with leaves, scissors should be used instead of cutting branches or even the tree itself. Harvesting buds is recommended in spring forest exploitation parks. Even from fruits, some quantities should be left behind to ensure plant regeneration. It is a civic duty to sow the same species in areas where medicinal plants have been harvested.

Overall, harvesting medicinal plants at the optimal time, in the correct way, and leaving enough material for future growth is crucial for obtaining high-quality plant material for medicinal purposes.

As the therapeutic effectiveness of medicinal plants is based on the dialectical relationship between active substances and pharmacodynamic action, the quality of raw materials is of utmost importance. Here are some best practices for harvesting and processing medicinal plants:

1. Know which plant part has the highest concentration of active substances, such as roots, rhizomes, aerial parts, bark, leaves, flowers, fruits, or seeds. This can be deduced from the formulation provided for each medicinal plant in this work.
2. Choose the optimal harvesting time based on the plant's growth stage (e.g., before flowering, in bud, during flowering) and the season. The period of the day and the weather conditions during harvesting are also important. Plants containing volatile oils should be harvested in the morning after the dew has evaporated or in the late afternoon until sunset on dry days, or in the morning before sunrise or on cloudy days.
3. Use the correct harvesting method to protect perennial medicinal plants and ensure the species' perpetuation. When harvesting underground organs or whole plants, leave enough individuals in the area to ensure material for future years. When harvesting flowers or floral parts with leaves, use scissors. Never cut the branches or even the tree itself, for example, to harvest linden flowers. Harvest buds in forest exploitation plots in the spring. Leave some quantities of fruits to ensure the plants' recovery. After harvesting medicinal plants in an area, it is a civic duty to sow the soil with the same species' propagation material.

Different plant parts have specific optimal harvesting times and methods. Roots, rhizomes, bulbs, and tubers should be harvested early in the spring before the aerial parts develop or late in the fall after the aerial parts wither. Aerial parts should be harvested just before or during full flowering. Leaf buds should be harvested early in the spring before unfolding. Bark should be harvested at the beginning of the vegetation period, when it comes off easily. Flowers should be harvested in the bud for some species and before withering for others. Fruits should be harvested when they reach maximum vitamin content or when ripe, depending on the species. Seeds should be harvested just before full maturity, then spread out immediately for drying in thin layers.

All plant raw materials should be dried immediately after harvesting. For industrial purposes, drying is done in special dryers, while for household pharmacy use, plants or plant parts are dried in small bundles hung in the air, in the shade or sun, depending on the case, or in well-ventilated attics, placed on clean paper, canvas, mats, or tarpaulins. Before drying, the plant parts must be conditioned, meaning that foreign bodies, non-indicated parts of the plant, altered or insect-affected parts should be removed.

After drying, the plant raw materials should be packaged in paper bags, cloth sachets, or cardboard boxes, never in plastic packaging. For using medicinal plants as they are or in the form of medicinal teas, tinctures, extracts, they should have the highest purity. Do not use medicinal plants from areas where pests have been fought with chemical means or plants harvested from polluted areas, parks, gardens, roadside edges, etc. Before using them in the form of infusions, decoctions, extracts, or other pharmaceutical forms intended mainly for internal use, medicinal plants should be washed with cold water, just like fruits or vegetables.

My artistic style is based on using oil colors to create art on canvas. I graduated from an engineering faculty, which influenced the way I approach the creative process. Specifically, I enjoy creating art that is precise and well-balanced, yet retains a note of spontaneity and creative freedom.

I'm very fond of old houses and landscapes, which are frequent sources of inspiration for my work. Additionally, I am fascinated by the human form and enjoy creating art that explores the body and movement in new and interesting ways. In terms of my artistic style, it is influenced by artists such as Michelangelo and Monet, and my style is often described as expressive and emotive.

I enjoy rich colors and texture in my work, and using oil as a medium allows me to add depth and dimension to each piece. Overall, my artistic style is a mix of precision and expressiveness, and my work is meant to inspire and delight anyone who sees it. I strive to create works of art that convey the beauty of the surrounding world, as well as enchant and inspire the viewers.

As an artist, I have chosen the oil on canvas technique to create artworks that reflect my personality and artistic vision. This medium allows me to achieve a wide range of effects and colors, giving me the freedom to explore the world from my perspective.

The use of oil in painting dates back to the 15th century, and this technique has been adopted by many famous artists over time, such as Rembrandt or Monet. For me, oil paints offer a quality and depth of color that I have not found in other media. Additionally, the slow drying speed of oil colors allows me to return to my work multiple times and add subtle layers of color or new details.

When creating a work of art, I start by sketching an idea on canvas, then apply layer upon layer of oil color. Each layer dries before moving on to the next, allowing me to add more textures and depth to the artwork. I like to use brushes of different sizes and shapes to achieve fine details or larger texture effects.

I use the oil on canvas technique to create landscapes, old houses, or works that explore the human body. I like to experiment with different effects of light and shadow and to create compositions that convey a certain emotion or mood.

Ultimately, my oil on canvas works are my artistic expression, and each work allows me to explore and convey the beauty of the world from my artistic perspective.

Besides art, I have a variety of other passions and interests that occupy my time and energy. Photography is one of my great passions, and I enjoy exploring the world through the lens of my camera. I like to capture moments and landscapes that can easily be lost in the everyday hustle and bustle, and share them with others through my photos.

Travel is also a big part of my life. Specifically, I enjoy discovering places with a rich history and interesting architecture, such as medieval towns or ancient monuments. My travels inspire me in my artistic creations and offer me a broader perspective on the world and the people who live in it.

In addition to my artistic and travel passions, I also have a degree in engineering and am passionate about technology and innovation. Since I drink a lot of tea to keep myself hydrated during my painting sessions and I love tea, I will try to bring as much information as possible about this subject in my works.

The elaboration of this work is based on practical considerations. In this regard, an attempt is made to make available to interested parties a wide range of phytotherapeutic products in the simplest form of preparation and administration: infusions, decoctions, macerates, syrups, and simple hydroalcoholic solutions. All these pharmaceutical forms can be obtained with simple laboratory equipment. Following the instructions given, they can be prepared in any household.

At present, after half a century of the dizzying rise of laboratory-synthesized drugs, in numerous developed countries, there is a marked tendency to reconsider biotherapy, i.e. the use of products synthesized by living cells for therapeutic purposes. This fact is not accidental. It is determined by two main factors. Firstly, it has been found that intolerance, side effects, or even medication accidents are much lower in the case of natural product therapy, and their bioavailability for the organism is much higher than that of chemotherapy remedies. Secondly, bioenergy synthesis, in the case of unicellular beings, for natural elaboration, mainly uses solar energy or rare active principles, which is much more economical both in terms of energy consumption and investments in costly laboratory or industrial installations and equipment. It is enough to mention that out of several thousand synthesized chemical structures, only one or two have a chance to become a pharmaceutical product.

The use of medicinal plants, as one of the oldest remedies known to man, has enriched its content.

Today, MODERN PHYTOTHERAPY (including aromatherapy) in the broad sense of this notion is the treatment of patients with the help of pharmaceutical products obtained from lower or higher plants. Based on the development of phytochemistry, biochemistry, pharmacodynamics, and modern pharmaceutical techniques, phytotherapy is today a new branch of medicine in full development and ascent. This fact explains the large number of pharmaceutical products that have plants or active principles elaborated by the plant cell in their formula. We will only mention a few of the most common Romanian pharmaceutical products that have active plant substances in their formula: Codamin, Codenal, Cofedol, Cortelar, Digitalin, Digoxin, Distonocalm, Ergomet, Extraveral, Fasconal, Fobenal, Hipazin, Hiposerpil, Lizadon, Nervocalm, Raunevril, Renogal, Rutozid, Scobutil, Sirogal, Tusomag, Ulcerotrat, etc.

From the beginning, it is necessary to clarify that herbal medicine does not exclude chemotherapy or other therapeutic procedures. Just as there are excellent chemotherapeutic drugs - the result of human intelligence and effort - there are also wonderful natural remedies developed by living cells.

Modern therapy has become an interdisciplinary science today. It involves a close collaboration between the doctor, pharmacist, chemist, physicist, biologist, mathematician, psychologist, engineer, or technologist, with a single goal: to find and apply the most suitable remedy for the patient.

With modern investigation procedures and equipment, complex and specialized knowledge, and efficient pharmaceutical products, the doctor plays the main role in selecting the main and auxiliary therapeutic remedies.

Herbal medicine should not be understood as an exclusive practice. Alongside it, there are currently good and verified chemotherapeutic products that can be associated with animal or opotherapeutic products, bee products, trace elements, enzymes, hormones, etc.

In my opinion, only through collaboration between chemotherapy, herbal medicine, organotherapy, ionotherapy, physiotherapy, psychotherapy, dietary hygiene, etc., can we achieve effective therapeutic results. Regarding herbal medicine, it is necessary to emphasize the following important aspects:

• There is no universal panacea, a remedy that can cure all diseases. Despite their complexity, herbal products have a principal action and therefore major efficiency for a specific condition.
• Herbal medicine should not be resorted to as a last hope after chemotherapy and all other therapeutic methods have been exhausted.
• Herbal medicine should not be used when effective, verified, non-toxic, and easily assimilable synthetic chemotherapeutic products exist.
• Herbal medicine should be based on the indications of specialists in this field, as it requires complex knowledge and superior training, like any other branch of science and practice.
• Herbal medicine, addressing largely chronic patients, requires long-term, well-managed treatment while also adhering to other medical indications.

By abandoning old empirical practices and advice received from unskilled persons, we must use the most accurate information resulting from the positive outcomes achieved in recent decades by the oldest, but at the same time the newest branch of modern therapy: herbal medicine.

Until now, only a small part of the multitude of data accumulated over millennia by different peoples regarding the use of medicinal plants has been partially studied. Today, this data is subjected to rigorous scientific control and returned to therapy. Modern herbal medicine is still in its infancy in this aspect. Using the achievements of natural sciences, modern techniques, analytical, microbiological control methodologies, molecular biochemistry, pharmacodynamics, and modern clinical investigation methods, herbal medicine is achieving significant success day by day in preventing or treating numerous conditions. Far from claiming to provide even the alphabet of herbal medicine in this work, we will present some of the main species of plants or plant mixtures from our country that can be used in the simplest form of processing raw materials and administration, available to anyone. Most plants or mixtures of plants known as medicinal teas are administered to patients as an infusion or decoction as an adjunct to the basic treatment prescribed by the doctor.

The index of species has been selected in this work based on availability in the distribution network, i.e., in pharmacies and specialized health food stores. At the same time, I suggest to readers that they can obtain some plants directly from the field during holidays, vacations, and weekend trips. There are numerous specialized works for recognizing medicinal plants. However, in case of the slightest doubt regarding the botanical identity of a particular plant, it is necessary to seek advice from specialists. In the wild flora, there are numerous species of toxic plants that can cause accidents. On the other hand, some species similar to medicinal plants lack the active substances needed to combat certain conditions.

Harvesting medicinal plants from the wild offers numerous advantages: physical activity, enrichment of knowledge, and exploitation of local resources.

It is essential to note that the effectiveness of medicinal plants depends on their quality and purity, the period of harvesting, the method of drying and preservation, and their age. It is recommended to dry and preserve whole plants in small bundles and to fragment them only before preparing the medicinal tea. This prevents certain chemical transformations, oxidation, loss of volatile oils, or other active substances. With the exception of several species (Crataegus, Gypsophila root, plants containing tannins, Althaea root), most medicinal plants must be renewed every 1-2 years. Numerous species kept for several years reduce their therapeutic efficacy by up to 80%.

Regarding the processing of raw materials into a plant-based pharmaceutical product, the result of a simple or complex production process, some basic knowledge is also required, which will be presented briefly in the general part of the work.

Since the post is primarily aimed at a wide audience, the use of plants that could lead to harmful effects through overdose has been avoided.

"Evening Whispers" is a captivating oil painting on treated cotton canvas, stretched over a sturdy cherry wood frame. This work was inspired by my travels to Germany, where the country's rich history and old-world charm stirred my imagination. I sought to capture a scene from a bygone era, depicting an intimate gathering of young women in the olden days.

To create this artwork, I used pig's hair brushes and layered oil paints, which allowed me to achieve depth and texture in the piece. Am creat acest tablou și înfățișează o scenă senină și pașnică în mijlocul unei păduri. Ideea mea inițială a fost să explorez puterea interioară a corpului uman, dar pe măsură ce lucram la pictură, aceasta a evoluat în această biserică acoperită cu pădure. Am folosit ulei pe pânză și am aplicat vopseaua cu degetele, amestecând culorile și creând o pensulă liberă și expresivă.

Punctul central al picturii este biserica, acoperită aproape în întregime de copaci și vegetație, ceea ce dă impresia că natura a preluat spațiul. Copacii din jurul bisericii sunt înalți și luxurianți, iar tufalul este gros și abundent, subliniind și mai mult ideea că natura deține controlul.

Am ales o schemă de culori de albastru, alb și verde închis pentru a crea un sentiment de liniște și calm. Tonurile de albastru sugerează un cer senin, iar albul creează un sentiment de ușurință și aerisire. Tonurile de verde închis, în schimb, evocă culorile profunde și bogate ale pădurii.

În general, intenția mea cu această pictură a fost să creez un sentiment de introspecție și contemplare liniștită, invitând privitorul să ia un moment pentru a aprecia frumusețea naturii și puterea liniștii.

I created a painting that features many anchored boats surrounded by stone. As an artist, I used my skills to bring out the beauty of the scene and express my vision on canvas.

The boats are the central focus of the painting, and they are anchored in a serene and calm harbor or marina. The boats come in various shapes and sizes, each with its own unique design and features. The water surrounding the boats is still and calm, reflecting the colors of the sky above.

The boats are surrounded by  cliffs that give them a sense of protection and safety. The stone walls are rugged and textured, suggesting the passage of time and the power of nature.

I used a natural color palette for the painting, with various shades of blue, green, brown, and gray. The blue tones represent the sky and the water, while the green tones are a symbol of the vegetation growing on the stone walls. The brown and gray tones of the stone walls add depth and texture to the painting.
